Build Timing, Control, and Section Awareness
This warmup is a progression from 8 on a Hand. Same general concept, but with more meat on the bone.
Each voice builds individual skill:
- snares lock into hand flow
- tenors practice motion around the drums
- basses develop their listening and splitting chops
Unlike more advanced warmups, this one doesn’t require extensive breakdown or multiple days of instruction.
It’s simple enough for newer players, yet challenging enough to grow with your line as they improve.
This is the kind of exercise your drumline can play every day and still benefit from it.
Hands get moving. Ears tune in. Ensemble cohesion starts early.
It’s just hard enough to keep everyone focused. But it’s also easy enough to play clean by week two.
